The Challenge: The core challenge for Plough was to implement an effective strategy for content monetization and increase paid user subscriptions from their general readership. The team needed a high-converting paywall design that could strategically limit access to premium content while simultaneously tempting users with a compelling preview, thus encouraging them to transition from free readers to paying subscribers.
The Solution: I designed and implemented a metered paywall experience that maximizes user conversion by psychologically incentivizing payment. The design permits users to read a set number of free articles (3 articles) before activating the paywall. When activated, the design allows users to view the initial section of an article, but strategically blurs the remainder of the premium content, creating a strong desire to finish reading. This approach successfully leverages the taste of quality content to drive users directly to the subscription payment options.
